- DAYSTAR INTRODUCES FAST SCSI BOARD FOR NUBUS
- Cuts Hard Drive Wait Time in Half
-
- April 9, 1990--Flowery Branch, GA--DayStar Digital, Inc. introduced the SCSI
- PowerCard, a new high performance SCSI accelerator, at the MacWorld Expo last
- week in San Francisco. DayStar’s new board mounts in NuBus and is compatible
- with the Mac II, IIx, IIcx, IIci and IIfx.
-
- The SCSI PowerCard cuts hard drive wait time in half by increasing the SCSI
- transfer rate and by relieving the Mac’s CPU from managing SCSI transactions.
- It uses an on-board Motorola 68000 CPU to manage a high-speed SCSI controller
- with DMA (Direct Memory Access) to an on-board memory buffer - user
- expandable, 4 SIMMs at a time, up to 16 MB. The board will buffer disk reads
- and writes in the background, allowing users to continue to work productively
- instead of having to wait for the hard drive. The SCSI PowerCard is targeted at
- all users of disk intensive applications, such as database management and
- publishing.
-
- The SCSI PowerCard is priced at $1,295 with no memory, $1,495 with 1 MB and
- $1,995 with 4 MB. The SCSI PowerCard uses standard SIMMs.
-
- “We are excited to expand DayStar’s line of high-speed performance upgrades,”
- stated Andrew Lewis, President of DayStar. “With the SCSI PowerCard users can
- cut their hard drive wait time in half. For example, databases will sort up to
- 100% faster. What’s really great about this upgrade is that users can easily
- and affordably increase memory, and the board’s effectiveness, by adding
- standard SIMMs.”
-
- “The demand for higher performance from Macintosh systems has grown
- substantially over the last six months and is no longer a niche market. DayStar
- now offers users highly affordable acceleration for processing, disk I/O and
- memory expansion,” stated Lewis.
-
- DayStar’s SCSI PowerCard is fully compatible with all standard Macintosh
- software, including A/UX. The SCSI PowerCard works with all SCSI hard drives,
- optical drives and CD-ROM players.
-
- In addition to its high-speed (25 to 50 MHz) Macintosh II family accelerators
- DayStar also manufactures the Fast Cache IIci, a cache memory board that
- delivers a 30% to 70% increase in processing speed for the Macintosh IIci.
- DayStar also manufactures the LT200 LocalTalk Interface boards for the PC and
- the Micro Channel PS/2, which allow these machines to connect into Apple
- LocalTalk networks.
-
- DayStar’s goal is to rapidly integrate new technologies into useful products
- that enhance Macintosh system performance. The company is dedicated to meeting
- customer needs through rapid development of proprietary technology, top quality
- design and manufacture, and through accessible and knowledgeable customer
- support. DayStar Digital, Inc., is headquartered in Flowery Branch, GA, 40
- minutes north of Atlanta.
